Books!

Two books arrived for me today, The Media Students Book (Forth Edition) and How To Write Better Essays. I also have the second edition of The How’s and Whys of Level Design on the way. The media students book is going to be the general guide for the next two years of the HND, its got loads of useful info from what I have read so far when flicking through it.

We will also have to write two media essays over the first year so the second book was recommend to me for that. I am starting to work though it now and hope to finish it in a few days or so. Again it looks very good. Most of all I am looking forward to getting the Level Design book. I have the first edition in PDF format but reading a book from a screen is not my thing so I am looking forward to getting the paper version as well as all the updates it will have.

Why Some Times I Hate Windows

For the most part I am a raving Microsoft fan boy but just some times I really hate windows! Why the fuck does it have to freeze up on me so much. Its most likley because I push it too hard but for goodness sake my Laptop has three GB’s of RAM and my desktop as four. Both also have good CPU’s and GPU’s. It just really pisses me off when I am trying to flip between widows and IE just fucks up causing me to have to wait for up to 30 seconds for it to fix its self, or for it to crash.

I love you Vista, but some times you really piss me off!

To WOW

Yea I went back. I plan to play in a different way this time following quests a lot more and I am really going to try and find a good guild to play with. I suppose its getting harder and harder as time goes on for people not level 70 or close to it to get into a guild that’s good. The old stuff in the game is starting to die out now as new stuff comes in and I really want to level up quickly so that I can get involved with some raids etc.

Anyway sorry its been a few days since my last blog post I should be back to normal now, got a job interview coming up next week as well so I will let you all know how that goes.

Just Got Wii Fit!

Me and my brother finally got round to getting Wii fit today and I have to say its great! They had like 20 in stock which was a big surprise. Anyway I have spend a good bit of time with it and its really great for building up muscles or losing weight if you need to. I can really see my self using this everyday from now on as I think it could really help me build a better body and just keep me in better shape.

I was down on this sort of thing when Nintendo first started going this way but now I really love it and I have to say love Nintendo again. The Wii is getting more use than the PS3 at the moment that’s for sure. Anyway once I have played it a bit more I will post a full review, but if anyone is looking for something to keep them fit I recommend they get this.

I Am Alone Tomorrow

Or so I hope. Yea Alone in the Dark looks set to arrive in the post for me tomorrow one day before launch. I have the collectors edition ordered as I am really interested in the making off DVD as well as getting some of the music from the game on CD. I really hope it does well because a lot of work went into it and it really look like a lot of fun and brings a lot of new things to the table. Anyway enjoy the pictures of the collectors edition below. I also found out this is out here in Europe before the USA. O and before I finally go, I plan to post an update on my current UT3 map soon. Should get a podcast done some time this week as well.

 

Metal Gear Arived Today

Well MGS4 arrived in the post today one day before launch. Played at least three hours of it and love it so far. I was surprised that the cut scenes did not upset me at all, in fact I love watching them. This is my first proper metal gear experience and I just love the gameplay. So many nice touches in the game like finding music from the older versions of MGS and then being able to play them on your in game I-Pod!

But I will save my thoughts for the review which I should post up in the next week or so, depending on how much I play. I also hope to do a Podcast tomorrow or on Friday with Metal Gear being a big topic. Any way everyone getting it tomorrow, have fun!

Canoeing

After more than a year away from it I have finally started to get back into Canoeing. Before I had only really messed about where I put it into the water but I am now starting to travel around a bit more. Just to get back into things I went out for about an hour or so starting at one point and ending at the other. In total according to multi-map it was 3000 Yards. I really enjoyed getting, back out in the Kayak and hope to do more next weekend if its good and a lot this summer. I didn’t have a camera with me but I think i have a cheep £5 one that you can plug into the PC that I will bring next time.

Work Starts On Next Map

Now that I am 99% finished college (I just have one tiny thing left to do, handed in the FMP today) I have loaded of free time again. Needless to say I booted up Unreal ED for UT3 and finally got started on my next map. I had all ready done out some designs on paper so it was good to make a basic layout for it in the editor its self, and be able to run around it to see what it could be like. Its still very basic but I have a really clear vision of how its going to look and play.

World of Warcraft

Yea I got sick of waiting for my Stargate Worlds beta so I just started my WoW account again. I am having fun so far, I am taking it in small chunks. I don’t know if I will play for more than a month but its a great game and its nice to get back to it after several months of being away. I would really like to get to 70 some day but with SGW’s out this year I don’t know if that will happen.

I also have a new GPU coming next week as well, the 8800GT OC. It looks very good from the reviews and is more powerful than the 9600 from what I can gather. Looking forward to getting that as well.

 

Playstation

Am I the only one who feels like getting a PS3 was a big error, in there lives. I mean I have had some really great experiences with games like Uncharted and Motorstorm, but apart from that I have not found a lot of use for it. The online is fucked up how fucked up depends on where you are in the world, with Europe being the worst due to the shitty PSN Store updates. When I got my PS3 it was very expensive and it still is and I have found nothing that has really, as of yet made it worth the money.

Again games like Uncharted and Motorstorm have been great, I would rate uncharted among my top ten games of all time but those are just two games on a system that’s been out for well over a year now. The thing that worries me most is I don’t see much coming either. Home looks like a late 2008 title if we are lucky and Killzone 2 and Resistance 2, well don’t quite do it for me.
