Another Fable 2 Post

28 10 2008

This post has some mega spoilers about the story of Fable 2. So you may not want to read it.

This may or may not be my final Fable 2 post but it’s just such a good game. So I finished it on Saturday night and I have to say it’s the most emotional game I have EVER played. At the end I picked the wish of sacrifice and TBH as noble as it was I really regret it. The games not the same without you little dog running around beside you and I really which I picked the wish of love to bring back everyone you ever loved including the dog.

I have started the game again and this time I will save the dog at the end. This post was longer and talked a lot more about how great Fable 2 is but Word press fucked up and lost some of it.

Fable 2 So Far

25 10 2008

So I have had the game for three days now and so far I love it! Lionhead have this wonderful way of doing everything very British, from the art to the voices of the people in the world its a game that could only have been made in the UK. Some people where cornered that the combat might suffer as you only use one button for each type (X attack, Y Range (gun’s etc), B Will (magic)).  Well in my opinion its the best combat system I have ever experienced. It allowed you to use all of you skills very effectively and effortlessly. Take this for an example, I love the time power which allows you to slow down time or jump around very quickly. So you can kill one guy with you sword, jump in a second across and behind the another enemy just about to hit you as you finished of the first, kill him from behind and then pull out you gun to get a few rounds of on the others. That is one of my strategy’s anyway. Even with one button for each mode there are loads of different combo’s to use.

The dog, the dog, He is your best friend even when you are walking alone though dark forests with rain poring down you never feel alone because he is always with you. Its really great the way he will get you to check out different areas which usually contain a nice item or two. I am sure everyone knows the game has no mini map which is a very good thing! Instead you have a glowing trail which will point the way for your current quest, you can turn it off or adjust how strong it is, I have it off for the most part as i find I explore the world a lot more.

As good as Fallout 3 should be I don’t think any other game this year will touch the innovation, charm and fun in the game. I didn’t go into detail about story, having a family, buying shops etc etc but its all there and the experience can be an emotional one as well. In my opinion this looks like the most likely game of the year so far.

Fable 2 Is On Its Way!

22 10 2008

Yea I know its out in the USA all ready but in Europe its a Friday for most new games. But I got word my copy was sent out early today so it should arrive in the post tomorrow! Really looking forward to it but I don’t get home till after 4 some time. Well I will still have it earlier than I should anyway, so that’s always good. Any of you lot picking it up too or maybe you all ready have it? Let me know what you think in the comments box.

Fallout 3 the week after as well and I will be off all that week, its going to be great.

The Month Of RPG’s

13 10 2008

Its a great month for games, both Fable 2 and Fallout 3 come out and I am very much looking forward to getting both. Its quite nice that both have very different settings, Fable with its fantasy and quite British setting and Fallout in the Wastelands of Washington DC. I am looking forward to Fable slightly more because of all the features and new ideas that have been talked about, but both look stunning and if oblivion is anything to go by Fallout 3 should have 100 hours alone worth of gameplay and most likely more.

I have to say it was disappointing that so many features got cut from the Fable 2 collectors edition but I am still getting it for the making of video. The Fallout 3 collectors edition on the other hand has loads of cool stuff as well as a making of video, not to mention the cool box it comes in.

Blog Version 2.3 – New Feature!

6 10 2008

That’s right I have updated the blog version again. The only but big change is the “photo of the day section”. Most days I will take a photo that inspires me or something that I think is interesting and just post it up. The one you can see at the moment was taken a few weeks ago. Its something I had on an old blog and am happy to have it back again. It will not be updated every day but I hope to do it most days. For now it will be at the bottom below the Archives section but it may move up a bit.

Anyway I have college stuff to sort out, levels need designed and models need textured! Talk to you all soon.

PS: What do you guys think about me doing a video blog every so often. It would just be posted on you tube and then loaded here in a post every time I do a new one. Let me know.

Books!

3 10 2008

Two books arrived for me today, The Media Students Book (Forth Edition) and How To Write Better Essays. I also have the second edition of The How’s and Whys of Level Design on the way. The media students book is going to be the general guide for the next two years of the HND, its got loads of useful info from what I have read so far when flicking through it.

We will also have to write two media essays over the first year so the second book was recommend to me for that. I am starting to work though it now and hope to finish it in a few days or so. Again it looks very good. Most of all I am looking forward to getting the Level Design book. I have the first edition in PDF format but reading a book from a screen is not my thing so I am looking forward to getting the paper version as well as all the updates it will have.
